We at EnergySmart were thrilled to hear that the government is investing even more money into home insulation schemes. Following on from the ECO3 scheme launched in 2018, the new Green Home Voucher scheme also aims to reduce emissions by providing energy home saving improvements. 

The government has announced more energy-saving grants, available for various renovation projects including double glazing, energy-efficient doors and smart thermostats and a range of other energy saving solutions.

Homeowners in England will be able to get up to £10,000 worth of green vouchers to make energy-saving improvements to their homes. 

Which energy saving measures will Green Home Vouchers cover?

• Solid wall, under-floor, cavity wall or roof insulation
• Air source or ground source heat pump (where the home has or is having installed wall and loft insulation)
• Solar thermal (where the home has, or is having installed wall and loft insulation)

Households will need to install at least one of the above measures to qualify for funding.

In addition to this, you can use your voucher for further energy saving measures, including one or more of the following:

• Double or triple glazing/secondary glazing, when replacing single glazing
• Upgrading to energy efficient doors
• Hot water tank/appliance tank thermostats/heating controls

Homeowners and landlords will be able to receive the vouchers in late September. The scheme is part of a £3bn investment in green technology to cut carbon emissions. Chancellor Rishi Sunak outlined the plans for further investment as part of his economic statement in July which looks promising given that more than 600,000 people could benefit from the scheme. 

The Treasury stated that the grants could also help support more than 100,000 jobs. Chancellor Rishi Sunak stated that the “scheme will ultimately mean lower bills for households, hundreds of pounds of energy bills every year, it’s supporting jobs and is very good news for the environment.”
