We work on behalf of the energy companies to meet Eco3 obligations and to tackle fuel poverty

What is ECO?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme in the United Kingdom to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

Under ECO, medium and larger energy suppliers, including the ‘big six’, fund the installation of energy efficiency measures in British households.

The energy suppliers work with installers to introduce certain efficiency measures into your home, such as loft or wall insulation, or heating measures.

This is where EnergySmart can help – as ECO experts and installers of both heating and insulation, we can help you obtain the grants in order for you to take advantage of the 100% FREE improvements.

Renewables

Renewable energy is generated from sources that are constantly replenished, such as the sun, wind or water. Generating heat or electricity from renewable sources reduces reliance on fossil fuels.

There are a number of ways you can generate your own energy at home using low or zero carbon ‘microgeneration’ technology.

Installing renewable heating, rather than relying on the grid, will reduce your carbon footprint.

Plus, you are less dependent on sources of energy that are increasingly subject to global demand, so you’re more protected from any future price rises.

How can using renewable energy in my house benefit me?

The Energy Saving Trust estimates that in comparison to an electrical heating system, a biomass system can save you up to £880 a year. Furthermore, there are other benefits such as affordable heating fuel and the fact it is considered to be a low-carbon option.

Green Home Grant Scheme

See if you qualify for the 100% free of charge scheme

The government has announced more energy-saving grants, available for various renovation projects including double glazing, energy-efficient doors and smart thermostats (but only if you install insulation or low carbon heating as well). Homeowners in England will be able to get up to £5,000 worth of green vouchers to make energy saving improvements to their homes from September.

Homeowners and landlords will be able to receive the vouchers in late September. The scheme is part of a £3bn investment in green technology to cut carbon emissions. Chancellor Rishi Sunak outlined the plans for the further investment as part of his economic statement in July which looks promising given that more than 600,000 people could benefit from the scheme.

What will the vouchers cover?

The scheme is now more complex following on from the most recent update from the government on the 4th August. To qualify for any financial support, you must at least install one of the following primary improvements including:

  • Insulation, including solid wall, cavity wall, underfloor, loft or roof insulation
  • Low carbon heating, such as air-source or ground-source heat pumps, or solar thermal systems, which provide renewable ways of heating your home

Then you can gain access to the vouchers to install the following secondary measures:

  • Draught-proofing
  • Double or triple glazing, or secondary glazing – but only if you currently have single glazing – it won’t cover replacement double glazing.
  • Energy efficient doors – where you’re replacing doors installed before 2002.
  • Heating controls and insulation – including appliance thermostats, hot water tank thermostats, hot water tank insulation, smart heating controls, zone controls, delayed-start thermostats and thermostatic radiator valves

EnergySmart can complete any of the above primary and or secondary measures to a high and professional standard!

Important: *you can only receive funding for the secondary improvements up to the amount of the primary measures*
